Hole in the Head

John Kline Jr, a part-time projectionist and amateur filmmaker who is mute and experiences gaps in his memory, hires local actors to portray his parents in recreated home movies in an effort to investigate their unsolved disappearance from 25 years ago. "Hole in the Head," filmed across the island of Ireland during the pandemic, combines both new and old technologies and employs a film-within-a-film structure, exploring themes of autofiction, trauma, and private ritual through a hauntological lens.
