Oliver and his brother Jackie arrive in town for their estranged father's funeral, where Oliver unexpectedly inherits the family funeral home, only to learn from handyman Henry that it's on the brink of bankruptcy. That night, a drunken drive with mortician Roberta ends in a fatal collision with a hiker, which she disguises as an accident to secure their first paying customer, sparking a ruthless killing spree that turns intentional. As bodies pile up in bizarre and brutal "accidents" to sustain the business, Oliver evades the local law (Roberta's father, Chief of Police Knickle, and her boyfriend, Constable Richmond) while torn between Roberta and his alluring stepmother, Luanne. With success mounting, he realizes he's trapped in a grave of his own making.
