Former violinists Jan and Eva Rosenberg, who have a tempestuous marriage, live in quiet retreat on a remote island farm until the civil war that drove them from the city catches up with them. Amid the chaos of the military struggle they face impossible moral choices that tear at the fabric of their relationship. In spite of their best efforts to escape their homeland the war impinges on every aspect of their lives.
