La Mujer de Estrellas y Montañas

Rita Patiño, an indigenous woman from Mexico, endures twelve years of involuntary confinement in a Kansas psychiatric hospital, where authorities fail to identify her origins, background, or spoken language until a human rights organization discovers and frees her. Scarred by the ordeal's confinement and medical negligence, she returns to Mexico and rebuilds her life alongside her niece and devoted caregiver, Juanita, amid stark economic hardships. Together, these two Tarahumara women navigate the pervasive racism and discrimination confronting indigenous women across Mexico and the United States.
