    France 1944: Nervous tension prevails among the German occupiers: the division Das Reich is to move to Normandy. The behaviour of the militia becomes more and more threatening. Julien therefore decides to place his wife and daughter in a castle for safety's sake, so that they can safely wait there for the undoubtedly near end of the war.
