Mugshot is a look at the cultural value of photos of suspects and criminals and their fascination for the art world. Filmmaker Dennis Mohr explores the enigma of these portraits of criminals, thugs, drunkards and junkies. Once disregarded as photographic evidence of a crime, these tiny moments of history are now highly valued by collectors and aficionados as we see how these precious photos are used in historical archives, in art and in tabloid culture. Mugshot explores the personal stories of those whose lives have been transformed by these emblematic photos, including New York collector Mark Michaelson, Scottish writer, artist and collector Diarmid Mogg, American journalist Isaac Cornetti and Canadian historian Jeanie Tummon.
