Stock girl Maggie Johnson (Mary Pickford) falls for coworker Joe Grant (Charles Rogers) at the Merrill department store without knowing he is the son of the owner. Joe aims to prove his ability to work his way up honestly and falls for Maggie in the process. Upon the revelation of his true identity, Maggie discovers his engagement to a debutante (Avonne Taylor). She flees their budding relationship while Joe resolves to win her back.
