In the vibrant, seedy East Village of 1985 New York City, former rock musician Macabee Cohen (David Brisbin) drives a beat-up VW bus, supplying records to local jukeboxes amid rampant real estate speculation, rent strikes, and art invading the bars, leaving him feeling like an uninvited guest at his own neighborhood's party. His life unravels as his girlfriend leaves for the Air Force, a neighbor pushes for a green card marriage, his father abandons his mother for a younger man, and his brother sends postcards from a sexual journey across all fifty states. When a mysterious girl enters his world, Mac's obsession to find her sparks a quest for self-discovery, as he seeks someone to save in order to save himself.
