In 1966 Mississippi a young Black FBI agent (Yahya Abdul-Mateen II) arrives to investigate a wave of brutal murders targeting civil rights leaders. Forced to partner with notorious mafia hitman Greg Scarpa (Mark Wahlberg) he enters a deadly pursuit where the boundary between justice and vengeance grows increasingly blurred. With a failing system two men from opposite worlds agree on one point the law has its limits but they do not.
