In the impoverished border village of Corral Grande, beautiful young Haitian Marie (Cyndie Lundi) shares a loving life with her Dominican husband Frank (Ramón Emilio Candelario, Woodpeckers), eagerly awaiting their first child's birth. Awakened by distant screams and smoke on a quiet October night, Frank rushes to defend the community, leaving Marie to protect his younger sister Salome. Violence erupts as Dominican soldiers plunder homes, set fires, and execute Haitians unable to pronounce "perejil." Fleeing into the forest with Salome, Marie searches for Frank, evades the savagery of President Rafael Trujillo's genocidal orders, and endures a hellish night where new life emerges amid chaos, revealing the strength of the human spirit.
