Launched in 1982 by three friends in a Houston diner, Compaq Computer set out to build a portable PC to take on IBM, the world's most powerful tech company. Although many others had tried cloning IBM's prized code, only to be trounced by high-priced lawyers, Compaq's vision for a portable PC found startling success, sending shock waves through the industry, dethroning a tech giant and shaping the world we now know.
