Sudden Rain

In the quiet suburbs of Tokyo, Fumiko and Ryōtarō Namiki navigate a marriage strained by endless petty disputes over mundane matters -- how to spend a day off, his desire to read the newspaper while she clips recipes, her cooking, and his habits. These small irritations slowly unveil a profound discontent beneath the surface of their union. Tensions escalate when Ryōtarō's company announces layoffs, and colleagues approach with a plan to invest their severance into opening a bar, suggesting Fumiko take a role there. Ryōtarō's fierce opposition to her working outside the home ignites a deeper rift, pushing them to confront the possibility of divorce and the idea of Ryōtarō retreating to his rural hometown to toil on the family farm.
