Summer in the City

In 1968, distinguished German writer Uwe Johnson wanders Manhattan's Upper West Side, introducing and questioning various characters as he exchanges news and opinions amid the neighborhood's vibrant streets, cafeterias, and parks. Having lived there for years and immersed himself in its daily rhythms, Johnson compiles a list of essential places and situations, while his introspective narration captures the essence of this urban summer, later broadcast in Germany.
