The 3 Rooms of Melancholia

In Kronstadt's military academy near St. Petersburg, young cadets from broken families endure rigid drills, classes, church ceremonies and recess as they train for the Russian army amid national turmoil. In shell-ravaged Grozny, families cling to survival in ruined buildings while stray dogs prowl streets, Russian vehicles and checkpoints dominate roads, and a woman rescues orphaned children. In Ingushetia refugee camps and orphanages, a boy lives in a cardboard box, a girl bears trauma from rape by soldiers at age twelve, and children watch televised images of the deadly Moscow theater hostage crisis.
