The Face Behind the Mask

A hopeful Hungarian immigrant, Janos Szaby (Peter Lorre), arrives in New York City only to suffer disfiguring burns in a hotel fire on his first day. Unable to find work as a skilled watchmaker due to his scarred face, he turns to theft using his deft hands to disable alarms. He rises to lead a gang of thieves and raises money for a realistic latex mask of his own face. When tragedy strikes again, the disillusioned Janos embarks on a self-destructive quest for revenge.
