Mickey is stuck in the memory of his self-destructive past. His one outlet is a creative-writing class and an assignment to write about someone he doesn't know but finds interesting. As Mickey grows through the contemplative time he spends with his character of choice and a woman who represents a potential future for him, he also begins to understand and forgive the abusive father he has battled for years.
