It was an extraordinary event. A hunter stopping for lunch finds the mummified remains of a man in his forties. Next to the body is a journal in which the man has chronicled his last 62 days, starving himself to death. A reinterpretation of the Shimada Masahiko novella based on a real-life story, The Sound of Insects - Records of a Mummy is a strangely sensory experience and a magnificent celebration of life. As we have come to expect from the Swiss director, Liechti experiments with texture and sound in associative and abstract images to relate this mysterious journey. Canadian filmmaker Peter Mettler narrates the dead man's words. A gripping exploration of the mystery of death.
