1h 58min
Leftist mill worker Leopold Dilg (Cary Grant) is accused of arson and murder and escapes jail mid-trial, seeking shelter in a remote cottage owned by his former schoolmate Nora Shelley (Jean Arthur). He arrives at the same time as summer tenant Michael Lightcap (Ronald Colman), a distinguished law professor and Supreme Court candidate first led to believe Dilg is the gardener. Nora keeps the police at bay while Lightcap investigates, finds a witness confirming the mill foreman is alive, and helps capture him. After an escape lands Dilg behind bars, Lightcap locates the foreman and larcenous mill owner to clear his name.
