Philippe Chagal, an unhappily married concert pianist, meets waitress Helen Lawrence in a restaurant. Drawn to each other, they sail to his country home as a storm approaches. Helen discovers his fame and falls in love but chooses to leave. A hurricane strands them after a tree cripples their car, forcing them to shelter overnight in a church choir loft. Rescued the next morning, Helen meets his mentally ill wife. They reunite later, and Philippe departs for Europe with his wife, promising to return.
