Key Largo

Bogie arrives in Key Largo to visit his late war buddy's family at the closed Largo Hotel, now occupied by mobsters led by deported gangster Johnny Rocco. Rocco brags about his toughness and challenges Bogie to a shootout with an unloaded gun, which Bogie discards. A captured local cop grabs it and is shot dead by Rocco. As they await Miami crooks for counterfeit money, a hurricane strikes, terrifying Rocco while his captives taunt him with storm tales. Post-storm, the deal is done, but stranded, the gang forces Bogie to pilot the hotel's boat to Cuba, a grave miscalculation against the resourceful veteran.
