In late-1940s Montréal, a cocky, hyper-ambitious poor kid from the Jewish ghetto, the neglected younger son of a working-class family, pushes, schemes, and hustles his way to the top by embarking on a series of get-rich-quick ventures to buy land surrounding a lake and finally gain respect.
